Oeiras International School

Oeiras International School (OIS) welcomed its first students in September 2010, and offers the full International Baccalaurette Organisation (IBO) programme for Years 6 to 13 (ages 10-18), where students with a range of abilities find success.

This non-profit school was founded by a group of parents and teachers deeply committed to academic excellence and intellectual rigour, to a focus on individual learning styles (multi-level teaching) and to community.

For the student or child this means that the school has an innovative and creative character, provides an environment of openness and mutual respect and develops the individual talents of each and every student. Extra-curricular activities focus on creativity and community service; a variety of sports activities are also provided.

Chari Empis, the Principal, a mathematician and educator with 30 years experience has gathered together an international group of enthusiastic, energetic and highly qualified teachers. The school intends to grow in size and will maintain the sense of community and freedom amongst the students and teachers which is enhanced by smaller class size (maximum 15 students per class).

The special energy of a new project is apparent throughout the school, currently housed in Fundição de Oeiras. The elegant historical interiors provide inspiration and a family atmosphere pervades the building. From next year the school will be based in a restored beautiful Portuguese Quinta, within its own grounds, in Oeiras.

At OIS happy students are taught by committed and contented teachers.
