In 2010, Portugal will experience a 0.3% growth in GDP, following a decrease of 2.9% in 2009. According to Brussels, with this level of growth, Portugal will not be able to curb unemployment. Eurostat predicts that in 2010, unemployment in Portugal will be above the EU average of 9.9% at 10.5%. The EMF calls on Portugal to implement a "credible budget recovery plan" in order to prevent a further fall in its public finances.
