In twenty years the retail trade has undergone a real revolution in Portugal.  Medium and large stores have appeared and considerably changed the Portuguese consumer’s habits.  Meanwhile, traditonal commerce (non-food) has also been revolutionised with the multiplying growth of franchised shops.  For example, we now find in Lisbon some of the big names of designer clothing.  Shopping centres were practically non-existent before Portugal joined the EEC, and have also become  popular in Portugal.  We are therefore fast approaching the standards of the major European cities, even though there is still a significant gap whether it be in terms of choice of products, or of quality and customer / after-sales services, etc.
There are still good opportunities available for those wishing to invest in franchising in Lisbon.

Out of the following buildings, which do you think best symbolises Lisbon?
Belém tower
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos
25th April bridge
Praça do Comércio (square)
S. Jorge Castle
Rossio Station
Cathedral (Sé)
Free water aqueduct
Monument to discoveries
Santa Justa elevator
